Who We Are

About Us
We are a domestic violence charity, founded in 2004 by Marie Hanson, MBE.
She created the charity from her personal and lived experience of domestic violence. A survivor herself, who escaped her abusive partner, heavily pregnant, with her five children in tow, she wanted to help other women going through the same thing.
Lost, alone and experiencing the unrelenting daily horror of domestic violence, she knows exactly what it’s like.

Marie is a community champion and a tireless campaigner. Read our founder’s extraordinary and inspirational story here.

What We Stand For
STORM is an acronym for Support, Trust, Opportunity, Rebuilding and Motivation – and empowers domestic violence survivors to reconstruct their lives.
Because abuse is not a singular issue, STORM also focuses on family support, poverty, unemployment and youth clubs.
STORM’s Vision
Our aim is to help abused women and young girls gain the confidence and support they need to rebuild their lives.
The charity helps people who have been dependent on benefits for years gain access to the invaluable education and support they need to get back into work.
STORM also steers young people away from crime by giving them the motivation and support to change their lives and reach their full potential.

Home
At our family centre in Battersea, we have an open-door policy for everyone in need, helping to break down barriers.
STORM continues to grow, expanding our services to residents not just in Wandsworth but also in surrounding London boroughs.
